Vintage Chic Cupcakes

Here are some of the cupcakes I have been making this week for some lovely clients. I was really pleased to get an order for vintage-inspired creations as I love making roses and adorning cupcakes with lots of sugarpaste decorations. These cupcakes were filled with lemon curd and had a thin layer of lemon buttercream on top before the sugarpaste covering and decorations were added. I used royal icing to pipe some dots and stripes to add a bit more texture to the cakes.

And here are the cupcakes together on my new chandelier cake stand from the US.  I just love this cake stand.....it took a few months to arrive in the UK, but for anyone who is interested in purchasing one, you can find them on Amazon here.

Hope you are all having a lovely week.

Shabby Chic Cupcake Classes

On 2nd April a new cake store - Cakeology - is opening in my suburb. I'm super excited about this because they will be stocking a complete range of cake decorating equipment and supplies.....I am never going to run out of sugarpaste again and have to wait for it to be delivered - yay!

Cakeology will also be running a whole lot of different cake decorating workshops over the year, including a day course on how to decorate cupcakes shabby chic style! I am especially excited about this because I have been asked to run the course.  My first 2 classes will be held on 30th April and 14th May from 10-2:30pm. You can find out more information about this class and the other classes run by Cakeology here. Here's a peek at some of the cupcakes I will be showing everyone how to make.....

So pretty and girly - I love it!

Sugarpaste Cookies

I've been playing around with sugarpaste this week. Here are some cookies which I have made (and eaten!!).

These cookies were embossed with rose patchwork cutters (assorted selection) and then dusted with blossom dusts to add definition....really quick but really effective :)

These cute little pumpkins were covered with orange sugarpaste, and then textured with a cutting wheel. I piped the vines on last with green royal icing.

Miniature Cakes

Yesterday I went on my first cake decorating course at Cakes4Fun in Putney. I had a great time with 6 other decorating enthusiasts learning how to prepare and decorate miniature cakes. It took a whole day to prepare 6 cakes, but it was worth the effort - I was really pleased with the final result and picked up some great tips which I'll be trying out on my next baking project.

The cakes were cut into cylinders from a rectangular block of madeira cake and filled with raspeberry jam and buttercream, before being covered in fondant. We were then left to decorate the cakes, and here's the end result:
